In-home (or online) training is an excellent option for training your new puppy or rescue dog. If you have a new canine member of the family who needs to learn the basic obedience commands, Family Pack offers the advantages of in-home training. While puppy classes can offer an increase in socialization, there is a distinct difference between the time to socialize with other dogs and humans and the time to train with focus. Socialization comes in many forms; exposure to sounds, smells, tastes, dogs, humans, other animals, the elements, toys, and everything else a dog will encounter. The training package includes socialization in various forms as well as the most important obedience commands for both safety and manners.

The In-Home Training Package Includes: 

• The most important basic commands: Sit, Down, Stay, No/Leave It, Off, Come, Heel (or a command word you prefer such as 'side')

• Technique, conditioning, and proofing

• Timing

• Exiting and entering doors

• Housebreaking methods

• Crate training if needed

• Dealing with digging, chewing, and barking

• Psychology of canines

• Training your dog based on genetics and temperament

• The types of reinforcement and when to use them 

• When to give affection

• Keeping expectations in check: setting yourself and your dog up for success

For training you will need: ​​

• Flat collar

• 6 foot flat nylon leash

• 20 foot long leash

• Clicker (optional and only if you want to do clicker training)

• Treats or kibble

The training program is 8 sessions. We schedule each session based on the dog, family, dedication to training, and other factors as needed. It is far more important that owners understand and master the timing and technique of training rather than being rushed through a program. Dogs learn at different speeds and when owners feel the constraints of time they often become frustrated and anxious. Please remember that training is a life long commitment but looks different at each stage of a dog's life.
